Hi hi,
About me:
By coincidence both my jobs (college teacher and hockey team PR girl) ended in July '07 and, having always wanted to try my hand at movie making, I gave myself the summer to do that. I invented this show and asked people I knew and didn't if they'd like to be a part of an exploration... you know, have a laugh&chat, brag a bit about themselves and boast how very Canadian they or their thing is. Then I put the episodes online.
In September I got discovered by both CBC and Current.com and things took off. I landed a "developmental contract" with CBC on Valentine's '08 and one week later had moved myself to Toronto.
Somehow I became "CBC's inaugural made-for-the-web show" and was for a while on their website. I couldn't sell it to them, tried both CTV and the Discovery Channel and almost did, and that's where the story is right now.
A few more things:
- I want to be a member of 'The Explorers Club'
- I do everything myself: edit / shoot / produce / etc
- I am totally self-taught
- I work as a security guard and freelance video editor
- I haven't had a TV in over a decade
- I've never lived in a big city, and now think I always will
- I have a hard time grasping north/south and directions
- I rarely listen to music and don't get why people find that odd
- I heart the 8th of each month
- I probably live too much in my imagination
- I can eat more candy and sugar than you
About Canada:
I think it's the best country to live in the world. I love how we are internationally known as a polite, friendly nation who leave their doors unlocked, and whom others impersonate overseas. Sometimes when I hear our national anthem my eyes mist up.
However, not since the '70s has Canada experienced a nation-wide, patriotic, "we adore our country!" fervor and boy, do we need it. We rock, the hard part is done; now someone needs to skip around amalgamating it all.
So I'm going to do try to do that. For details, click below to watch I Read You My Manifesto.
About the show:
There are a few rules:
1 - If I don't get the footage too bad for me; there is no, "hey, can you do that again?"
2 - I can't create something that never happened through editing
3 - Nothing may be engineered to happen
Audio is my enemy, it's annoying I know and sorry. The pause button gets used differently when watching stuff online, so that's why the show is information-dense. For example, look at the top left box at 0:11 in my intro. Oh ya, my intro. Below I sum it up in 18 seconds of song.
Thanks for reading. Email me exploration ideas, or just to say hi.
Okay bye,
